Getting to St.Croix – It’s Easier than you Think

If you can’t easily take off in a car and get somewhere within a few hours travel usually requires quite a bit of planning: from carving out a hunk of time, to dealing with layovers to changing flights, changing airlines, cancelled flights, missed connections, etc, etc…point being it’s just ALOT to deal with.

All of us here on St. Croix can’t even begin how happy we are to always share the best, easiest, fastest and simplest ways to get to the island. Since it’s one of the United States Virgin Islands it’s so much easier than some islands – no passport required for U.S. Citizens. We were ecstatic when JetBlue began making it extremely simple, quick and easy to get to St. Croix. Thanks to JetBlue and their quick, affordable flights anyone wanting to fly to St.Croix from Boston, Hartford, JFK in New York, Newark, Washington D.C., Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, San Juan or Santo Domingo can easily hop on a JetBlue flight, make a quick pit stop in San Juan and be on St. Croix hiking the stunning mountains, checking out the Cruzn and Captain Morgan rum distilleries, snorkeling and scuba diving in the crystal clear water or relaxing on Chenay Bay’s one-mile stretch of exquisite beach in no time.

World Ocean Day 2012

Today, June 8th, is the 10th Annual World Ocean Day. It is a day of awareness, education and activities to promote knowledge and appreciation for all of Earth’s oceans. This year’s theme is Youth:the next wave for change.

St.Croix is happy to celebrate this day. How can we not with the great blue ocean stretching in every direction around our piece of paradise. To celebrate all of us at Chenay Bay Beach Resort wanted to write about some of the reasons we love and appreciate the ocean.

First of all  we love the inspiration and relaxation that being in its presence provides. There’s a good reason that we live on “island time”…it should really be called “ocean time” as its the real cause.

Then there’s our appreciation for everything the ocean provides from oxygen to food.

In celebration of World Ocean Day and its theme of educating youth St.Croix is offering free snorkeling training today. If your on St.Croix come out and enjoy the ocean, if your by the ocean elsewhere take a moment and appreciate it. If you aren’t by the ocean…use today to plan a trip or learn some new things about it! Happy World Ocean Day 2012 everyone!

St. Croix Native Spotlight – Tim Duncan

While the NBA finals in full motion most of us on St. Croix have chosen a favorite team – the San Antonio Spurs. It’s not because we are fond of the Texas weather (we prefer our tropical, Caribbean climate) it’s because their team captain, Tim Duncan is one of our beloved St. Croix natives.

Duncan grew up on St. Croix and was a top swimmer – it wasn’t until Hurrican Hugo trashed his pool that he decided to play a basketball. It’s a good thing he did. Duncan moved off St. Croix to take a scholarship to Wake Forest University and eventually went #1 in the NBA draft. He has spent his entire career with the San Antonio Spurs and has won four NBA Championships, been named the Finals MVP three times and the NBA’s MVP two times.Tim Duncan is known for his personality as well – he is very much an un-celebrity – staying humble and low-key, even after his many great successes. For this the United States Virgin Islands has awarded Duncan with their highest award – the “Virgin Islands Medal of Honor.”

We look forward to rooting for Duncan in this year’s NBA Finals and the Finals for many years past. We are proud St. Croix was  the paradise in which he could first discover his love and talent for basketball.

Why Happy Hour makes us happy

While it’s known as “Happy Hour” it’s often more than just an hour. Here are the top four reasons why here at Chenay Bay Beach Resort in St. Croix we truly love happy hour:

  1. Try the new. Been dying to try your favorite Cruzan Rum with a new mixer? Well Happy Hour is the time to try it  with discounted drinks so you can try all the combinations you want – for a fraction of the price. It gives you the chance to try food for a lowered price as well.

2.   Social Scene. Nothing brings people together and creates new connections better than a great Happy Hour. I mean come on everyone is happy – what better time for introductions.

3. Relaxation. The hours are ideal – at Mahi’s, the on-site, ocean front restaurant at our resort we have happy hour at the perfect time to begin relaxing whether you had a long day at work or a long day at the beach. Either way between 4 to 6 Monday thru Friday and noon to 5 on Sundays there’s no better time to drink and eat up.

4. Expect the unexpected. You never know where a Happy Hour might take you – it could be a few quite drinks with close friends and then call it a night. Or it could end as a glorious night that stretches until dawn. Or when you are in a Caribbean it could lead to a homemade slip and slide stretching out from the bar. You just really never know where the night will take you.

Come on out and join us for Happy Hour every week on St. Croix! And please share with us why YOU love Happy Hour!

US Citizens travel without passport

As a St. Croix resort we love this island. It’s our home and some of our residents have been born here, while some have come to visit and never left, making a life decision to permanently reside on this slice of paradise.

One great thing about St. Croix that some people may not know is that since we are an unincorporated territory of the United States there is no passport required to travel here if you are a U.S. Citizen. So you can fly from New York City to the tropical island of St. Croix with the same ease as flying from New York to Los Angeles.

Traveling is hard enough with the planning, packing, budgeting and everything else – why stress yourself out to travel to the Caribbean and deal with passports. Just hop on the plane and come on down…we are warning you though, you will probably enjoy it so much we won’t be able to get you to leave.

It’s the most special day of your life. Little girls dream about it. Dad’s dread it. The options and budgets for it are limitless. It’s your wedding day.

While destination weddings have been around for ages, they are becoming more popular than ever. Destination weddings give you a stunning and memorable backdrop that cannot be created anywhere but in a paradise such as St.Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ease at which it takes to plan a destination wedding is another one of the great things about them. Forget decisions and stress and details and concentrate on the love that is being bonded through the marriage.

Chenay Bay Beach Resort on St. Croix is a beautiful destination for your wedding. One perk is that the whole thing is planned for you. Pick a package and show up. It’s that simple. What’s even better is that a passport is not required for U.S. Citizens to come to St. Croix so travel is a piece of wedding cake.

Start your marriage out beautiful, peaceful and serene by having it in a place that encompasses all those qualities. For better or worse, you’ll always have a tropical, magical memory.

Just Another Day in Paradise

Ahh paradise. By definition it means a “place of extreme, beauty, delight or happiness,” or a state of “supreme bliss.” So really any place can be anyone’s own personal paradise – from being home with your children to kicking back on the beach in St. Croix.

At Chenay Bay Beach Resort on St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands we have a lot of ideas about paradise. We think snorkeling directly off the hotel’s one-mile stretch of beach is paradise. We also think dipping into our on-site restaurant, Mahi’s, Crucian Crabby Dip is quite heavenly. The most perfect piece of paradise though – the view.

Looking out at the beach from our St. Croix Resort, whether it be from the infinity edged pool or the private, Wet -Indian style cottages the view is truly breath taking. There’s crystal blue water, white sand and tropical plants flourishing. There’s no way that gazing out in any direction you can’t let your worries melt away and slip into your own personal paradise and bliss.
